just a simple trail which needs pump lumps and berms- sounds like a bit of singletrack/trails with no jumps

You can ride bridle paths across land as long as you stay on the paths and shut gates so farmers can have a moan... best get an Ordnance Survey map check out the area

Thanks. I will have a good look at that link. They mention

. Forgive my noobness but what the hell is that?

Lee, I have found a few bridle ways but nothing that I can make a decent course out of. I've found about 2 or 3 miles of dirt which gets boring when you do that 10 times :P
I have also found some marked cycleways, but they mostly go on road and, between my fear of bad drivers and the boring tar, don't really feel like following them.

What are the rules here regarding cycling on walkways? And if a bridal way points into what looks like private land, am I freely allowed in? I ask as, coming from South Africa, you don't tend to venture on to private land without permission...... or risk having the dogs set on you (yes it has happened).

Alan,

There is the Avon Cycle way that runs though thornbury, may be worth a shot. Also there are many bridle ways out towards Aust or Oldbury.

Have you found any yet ?
If at first you dont succeed, spend 6 hrs in casualty, then try again !!!

Hey all

I live in Thornbury and while I'm getting to a fit enough state so I won't embarrass myself if I get to join you again, I can't find any nice rides. All I find is 90% tar with the rare 10% of horse trail or open path suitable to ride.

Do any of you have any routes around that area? I didn't see any on the GPS section so my hopes are not high.

Thanks
Alan
